The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) Nor does he speak out of desire. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) While he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) then came down close (8) Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) His heart did not lie of what he saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: (14) Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: (19) And Manat, the third - the other one? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. (23) Can ever man get what he desires? (24) Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). (25)
