The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) nor does he speak out of desire. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) Then he drew near and hung above suspended, (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) For indeed he saw him at a second descent, (13) At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - (14) Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, (15) When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, (16) (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. (17) For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! (18) Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: (19) And Manat, the third - the other one? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) This indeed is an unjust division! (22) They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. (23) What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
