The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) and neither does he speak out of his own desire: (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. (7) then drew near and suspended hung, (8) Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. (14) near unto the garden of promise. (15) When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; (16) his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, (19) and Manat the third, the other? (20) What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? (21) That indeed is an unfair division -- (22) They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! (23) Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! (24) Allah's is the last and the first. (25)
