The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, (1) your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2) nor does he speak out of desire. (3) It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, (6) While he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he approached and descended (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. (10) The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) And he certainly saw him in another descent (13) Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. (14) Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. (15) When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes (16) His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, (19) and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? (20) "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" (21) That is indeed an unfair division! (22) these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! (23) Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
