The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) This is only revelation communicated, (4) He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, (5) One strong of make. Then he stood straight. (6) And he is in the highest part of the horizon. (7) Then he drew near, then he bowed (8) until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. (9) He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And verily he saw him yet another time (13) Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], (14) Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, (16) His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, (17) Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) and Manat the third, the other? (20) Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? (21) This is certainly an unjust apportioning. (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. (23) Can the human being have whatever he wishes? (24) So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. (25)
