The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) While he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) and then drew near, and came close, (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, (14) near which is the Garden of Abode. (15) when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! (18) Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, (19) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (20) Is the male for you and for Him the female? (21) that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! (22) These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Shall man have whatever he craves? (24) But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. (25)
