The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it plunges, (1) your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, (2) nor does he speak out of desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. (7) then he drew near, and became close (8) So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. (9) So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. (10) The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. (13) At the farthest lote-tree; (14) Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. (15) When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. (16) His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. (17) For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! (18) Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, (19) and, another, the third manat? (20) What, have you males, and He females? (21) that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! (22) They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Can the human being have whatever he wishes? (24) despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? (25)
