The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. (1) your comrade is not astray, neither errs, (2) Nor does he speak out of desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) While he was in the highest part of the horizon: (7) Then he drew nigh and came down (8) Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, (9) And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. (10) The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! (16) The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. (17) He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. (18) Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, (19) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (20) What, have you males, and He females? (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? (24) All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. (25)
