The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
