The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it plunges, (1) Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is not but a revelation revealed, (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) Then he approached and descended (8) And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. (9) And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. (10) The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? (12) Indeed, he saw him in another descent (13) by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, (14) close to the Garden of Refuge. (15) When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. (16) The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. (17) He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) and, another, the third manat? (20) Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. (23) Can ever man get what he desires? (24) Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. (25)
