The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- (1) your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. (2) Neither does he speak of his own will. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, (6) standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. (10) The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent (13) At the farthest lote-tree; (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. (17) truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. (18) So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? (19) And another, the third (goddess), Manat? (20) What, have you males, and He females! (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) And to God belongs the First and the Last. (25)
