The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) Neither does he speak of his own will. (3) It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, (4) something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he approached and descended (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. (10) The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. (15) When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). (19) and the third one, Manat? -- (20) What, have you males, and He females! (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. (25)
