The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) Neither does he speak of his own will. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) Taught to him by one intense in strength - (5) [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, (9) So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. (14) close to the Garden of Refuge. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). (19) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (20) Is it for you the males and for Him the females? (21) That indeed is a division most unfair! (22) These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! (23) Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, (24) To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. (25)
