The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, (1) your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. (4) The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, (5) Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); (6) While he was in the highest part of the horizon: (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. (9) So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. (10) His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. (11) Will you then argue with him about what he saw? (12) Indeed, he saw him in another descent (13) by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, (14) Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. (15) (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. (16) The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. (17) For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) and Manat the third, the other? (20) Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. (23) Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? (24) So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. (25)
