The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, (1) your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: (4) One of mighty powers hath taught it him. (5) The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) then came down close (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) Indeed he saw him a second time, (13) Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], (14) by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, (15) When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; (16) Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. (17) Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. (18) So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? (19) And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? (20) Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? (21) This indeed is an unjust division! (22) these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! (23) Or is there for man whatever he wishes? (24) But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. (25)
