The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the setting star, (1) That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, (2) Nor does he speak out of desire. (3) that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired (4) taught him by one terrible in power, (5) The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. (6) appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, (7) then drew near and suspended hung, (8) Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. (11) So will you dispute with him over what he saw? (12) For indeed he saw him at a second descent, (13) to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) (14) Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. (17) Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. (18) Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). (19) And Manat the other third? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) That indeed is a division unfair! (22) They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! (23) Or shall man have what he coveteth? (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
