The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, (1) Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: (4) He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, (5) Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6) the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he approached and descended (8) Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, (9) And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) Will you then argue with him about what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him descend a second time: (13) by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, (14) Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. (16) The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). (17) Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza (19) And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? (20) Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? (21) That indeed is an unfair division -- (22) They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. (25)
