The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) And he speaketh not of his own desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) taught by One who is Stern in power. (5) Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6) being on the higher horizon. (7) Then he approached and came closer, (8) And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, (9) He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. (10) The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. (14) Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! (16) [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, (19) And Manat, the third, the other? (20) What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? (21) This is certainly an unjust apportioning. (22) These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! (23) Is the human to have whatever he fancies? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
