The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it setteth. (1) your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2) And he speaketh not of his own desire. (3) It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. (4) something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: (5) The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. (6) the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. (7) He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. (10) The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. (14) near which is Paradise. (15) when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; (16) Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. (17) truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. (18) Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza (19) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) That indeed is a division unfair! (22) These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. (23) Can ever man get what he desires? (24) Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. (25)
