The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (1) Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; (2) Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. (3) It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. (4) One of mighty powers hath taught it him. (5) The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. (6) And he is in the highest part of the horizon. (7) Then he approached and descended (8) Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, (9) Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. (10) The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) Indeed, he saw him in another descent (13) Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: (14) Near it is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. (16) (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. (17) Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? (19) and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? (20) What, have you males, and He females? (21) that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! (22) These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. (23) Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? (24) And to God belongs the First and the Last. (25)
