The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the setting star, (1) your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. (2) nor does he speak out of desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) One of mighty powers hath taught it him. (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he drew near and hung above suspended, (8) So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) The heart lied not in that which he saw. (11) What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him descend a second time: (13) At the farthest lote-tree; (14) nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. (17) Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. (18) Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, (19) And Manat, the third - the other one? (20) Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? (21) That indeed is a division unfair! (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. (23) Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? (24) Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). (25)
