62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) And he does not say anything by his own desire. (3) It is but a revelation revealed. (4) and taught to him (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) And he is in the highest part of the horizon. (7) He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. (8) And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. (9) So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. (10) The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) by the lote tree beyond which none may pass (14) Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, (15) (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. (16) [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, (19) and about the third deity, al-Manat? (20) What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? (21) that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! (22) These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
