The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. (1) Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. (2) and neither does he speak out of his own desire: (3) that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired (4) and taught to him (5) The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, (6) While he was in the highest part of the horizon: (7) Then he drew near and hung above suspended, (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. (11) What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? (12) Indeed he saw him a second time, (13) by the lote tree beyond which none may pass (14) by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, (15) When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. (16) The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. (17) and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. (18) Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, (19) And Manat the other third? (20) "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" (21) This is certainly an unjust apportioning. (22) They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! (23) Can ever man get what he desires? (24) All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. (25)
