The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) Nor does he speak out of desire. (3) It is a revelations which has been revealed to him (4) taught him by one terrible in power, (5) One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form (6) While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, (7) Then he drew nigh and came down (8) until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer (9) So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). (13) By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, (14) Near it is the Garden of Abode. (15) When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! (18) Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, (19) And Manat, the third - the other one? (20) Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Or is there for man whatever he wishes? (24) Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). (25)
