The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the setting star, (1) your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2) And he does not say anything by his own desire. (3) It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. (4) One of mighty powers hath taught it him. (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) being on the higher horizon. (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) And verily he saw him yet another time (13) By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, (14) Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, (15) when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; (16) The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, (19) and about the third deity, al-Manat? (20) What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? (21) Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! (22) These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, (24) But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. (25)
