The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is not but a revelation revealed, (4) He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, (5) One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form (6) standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer (9) Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) Will you then argue with him about what he saw? (12) Indeed, he saw him in another descent (13) to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. (18) Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, (19) as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? (20) Is the male for you and for Him the female? (21) That indeed were an unfair division! (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) Allah's is the last and the first. (25)
