The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
