The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
