The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. (1) your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) He was taught by one Mighty in Power, (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, (7) then he drew near, and became close (8) until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. (9) So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (10) The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. (11) What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! (12) And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) near which is Paradise. (15) Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) (16) The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. (17) Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, (19) and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) This indeed is an unjust division! (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. (23) Can the human being have whatever he wishes? (24) To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. (25)
