The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, (1) your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, (2) And he speaketh not of his own desire. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6) And reached the highest pinnacle. (7) Then he drew near, then he bowed (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? (12) He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent (13) At the farthest lote-tree; (14) Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. (15) (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. (18) (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, (19) and, another, the third manat? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) This indeed is an unjust division! (22) These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Or is there for man whatever he wishes? (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
