The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) He does not speak out of his own desires. (3) that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form (6) While he was in the highest part of the horizon: (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) The heart lied not in that which he saw. (11) What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) Indeed, he saw him another time (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. (15) (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, (19) and about the third deity, al-Manat? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Can the human being have whatever he wishes? (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
