The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
