The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) By a Decree inscribed (2) on parchment for distribution, (3) And by oath of the Inhabited House. (4) And the roof exalted, (5) And the sea set aflame. (6) verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, (7) There is none can avert it;- (8) On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. (9) And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). (10) Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, (11) Those who in wading sport themselves. (12) On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): (13) “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” (14) Is it magic or do you not still see? (15) “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” (16) Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. (18) Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: (22) and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. (23) ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. (24) And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, (25) Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” (26) “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” (27) “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” (28)
