The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the mount. (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) on wide-open scrolls. (3) by the much-visited House, (4) And the roof exalted, (5) and by the swelling ocean, (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) There shall be none to avert it; (8) On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side (9) And the mountains will move with a visible movement. (10) Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, (11) Those who are playing in pursuits. (12) A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. (13) (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! (14) Is this magic, or do ye not see? (15) Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' (16) Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. (20) And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. (21) And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. (22) They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. (23) ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. (24) They will turn to one another ask questions, (25) 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, (26) Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. (27) Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
