The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount, (1) And a Scripture inscribed (2) On a parchment scroll unrolled, (3) By the House Frequented. (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) And [by] the sea filled [with fire], (6) Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. (7) No one can avert it. (8) Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily (9) And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). (10) Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, (11) Those who in wading sport themselves. (12) That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. (13) (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! (14) Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? (15) Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. (16) Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. (23) ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. (24) And they will advance unto each other asking questions. (25) They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". (28)
