The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) by the book (Torah) written (2) On fine parchment unrolled, (3) Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! (4) Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! (5) And the swollen sea, (6) Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls (7) none can avert that. (8) Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily (9) And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) Those who are playing in pursuits. (12) The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. (13) "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! (14) Then is this magic, or do you not see? (15) Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." (16) As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." (19) reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. (20) And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, (23) ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. (24) They will turn to one another ask questions, (25) They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. (26) So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. (27) "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" (28)
