The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) By the book inscribed. (2) On fine parchment unrolled, (3) by the much-visited House, (4) Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- (7) there is none who could avert it. (8) Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily (9) And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. (10) On that Day woe to those who belied (11) such as play at plunging, (12) That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. (13) This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' (16) Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. (22) and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. (23) ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. (24) They will go to one another asking each other questions: (25) They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). (26) But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. (27) Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' (28)
