The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) By a Decree inscribed (2) in an exposed parchment (3) by the established House (Mecca), (4) and the roof uplifted (5) Consider the surf-swollen sea! (6) verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, (7) none can avert that. (8) Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily (9) And the mountains will fly hither and thither. (10) So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. (11) Those who in wading sport themselves. (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. (14) Is this magic or do you not see? (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. (20) To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) And some of them draw near to others, questioning. (25) They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' (28)
