The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) and by the Book in lines (2) in an exposed parchment (3) The house ever-peopled, (4) And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). (5) And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). (6) Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. (7) none can avert that. (8) On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. (9) And the mountains will fly hither and thither. (10) On that Day woe to those who belied (11) Those who in wading sport themselves. (12) The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. (13) and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. (14) “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” (15) Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, (18) 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. (19) reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, (23) ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. (24) They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. (25) They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: (26) But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. (27) “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” (28)
