The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount Sinai, (1) And the Book written (2) on fine parchment; (3) By the much-frequented Fane; (4) The roof raised high, (5) And the swollen sea, (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) there is no one who could avert it, (8) On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. (9) And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. (12) The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. (13) (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. (14) Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? (15) Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. (16) Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' (19) reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. (20) And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. (21) We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. (22) There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. (27) Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" (28)
