The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, (1) By the book inscribed. (2) On a parchment scroll unrolled, (3) Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! (4) and the roof uplifted (5) And the sea kept filled, (6) Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, (7) and no one will be able to prevent it. (8) On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion (9) and the mountains shall violently fly about. (10) Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth (11) That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. (12) on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] (13) “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” (14) Is it magic or do you not still see? (15) “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” (16) The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, (17) Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. (20) The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. (21) And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. (22) There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). (23) ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And some of them draw near to others, questioning. (25) They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, (26) Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. (27) "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." (28)
