The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And by oath of a passage, written 2 On an open record. 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 By the roof elevated. 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
