The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) by the established House (Mecca), (4) And the lofty roof. (5) and by the swelling sea, (6) Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. (7) there is none to prevent it. (8) On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, (9) and the mountains move, moving. (10) woe that day unto those that cry lies, (11) and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). (12) The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, (13) (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! (14) Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? (15) Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' (16) Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” (19) Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. (20) And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. (21) And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. (22) In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. (23) ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. (24) They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. (25) They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: (26) “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” (27) we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' (28)
