The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) On a parchment scroll unrolled, (3) by the Visited House, (4) by the high ceiling (heaven), (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) and no one will be able to prevent it. (8) The day the sky will tremble, (9) And the mountains will fly hither and thither. (10) Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth (11) Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. (12) The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. (13) This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. (14) “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” (15) [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." (16) As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- (17) Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. (22) There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). (23) ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And they will advance unto each other asking questions. (25) Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: (26) Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. (27) “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” (28)
