The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (1) And by the Book Inscribed. (2) In an outstretched fine parchment, (3) And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); (4) And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). (5) And [by] the sea filled [with fire], (6) surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, (7) No one can avert it. (8) On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly (9) And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). (10) Then woe that day unto the deniers (11) That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. (12) On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): (13) 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! (14) “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” (15) "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." (16) Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, (23) ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. (24) And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. (25) They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: (26) Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. (27) "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." (28)
