The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) In an outstretched fine parchment, (3) By the House Frequented. (4) Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! (5) And the swollen sea (6) the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, (7) Of it there is no preventer. (8) A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. (9) and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). (12) The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. (13) This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. (14) "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? (15) Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. (20) We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. (21) And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. (22) They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. (23) ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. (24) They will go to one another asking each other questions: (25) Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: (26) "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. (27) We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. (28)
