The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) And the Book written (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) And [by] the frequented House (4) And [by] the heaven raised high (5) And [by] the sea filled [with fire], (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) none can avert that. (8) On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. (9) And the mountains will pass on, departing - (10) woe that day unto those that cry lies, (11) Who play in talk of grave matters; (12) The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], (13) 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! (14) Is it magic then or do you not see? (15) Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. (16) Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss (17) Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. (18) They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". (19) (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. (20) Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. (21) We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. (22) while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, (23) ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. (24) They will go to one another asking each other questions: (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
