The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, (1) and a Book inscribed (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) And the House frequented, (4) The roof raised high, (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. (7) There is none who could avert it. (8) A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. (9) And the mountains will move with a visible movement. (10) On that Day woe to those who belied (11) who divert themselves with idle chatter: (12) On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), (13) This is the fire which you used to deny. (14) What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? (15) Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. (16) Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. (18) "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," (19) Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire (22) There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. (23) ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. (24) And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. (25) Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. (26) But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. (27) "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." (28)
