The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount (of Revelation); (1) By the book inscribed. (2) In parchment spread open (3) And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); (4) By the roof elevated. (5) and by the swelling ocean, (6) Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; (7) and no one will be able to prevent it. (8) (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, (9) And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. (10) Then woe that day unto the deniers (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] (13) "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! (14) Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? (15) Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' (16) Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, (17) Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. (18) They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. (22) They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. (23) ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. (24) They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, (25) 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” (28)
