The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) On a parchment scroll unrolled, (3) by the Visited House, (4) By the Canopy Raised High; (5) And the swollen sea (6) Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) Of it there is no averter. (8) (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, (9) And the mountains will pass on, departing - (10) Then woe that Day to the beliers; (11) all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain (12) The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell (13) (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. (14) “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” (15) Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. (16) Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. (17) Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. (18) [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, (19) Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. (20) Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. (22) In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. (23) ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. (24) And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. (25) Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful".
