The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount (Sinai), (1) And a Scripture inscribed (2) On a parchment scroll unrolled, (3) by the established House (Mecca), (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) Consider the surf-swollen sea! (6) Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) There is none that can avert it; (8) On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, (9) And the mountains will move with a visible movement. (10) So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), (11) who divert themselves with idle chatter: (12) A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. (13) (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! (14) "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? (15) Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. (16) Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss (17) Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. (20) And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. (21) And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. (22) There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). (23) ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. (24) They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, (25) Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' (28)
