The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), (1) And [by] a Book inscribed (2) on unrolled parchment, (3) by the Visited House, (4) And the lofty roof. (5) And the sea kept filled, (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) there is no one who could avert it, (8) On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side (9) and the mountains shall violently fly about. (10) Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] (13) (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. (14) Is it magic or do you not still see? (15) Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” (16) [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. (18) (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. (23) ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. (24) And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. (27) "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" (28)
