The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, (1) And the Book written (2) in an exposed parchment (3) by the established House (Mecca), (4) and the roof uplifted (5) and the sea swarming, (6) Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, (7) there is none to prevent it. (8) On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side (9) and the mountains shudder and shake. (10) Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, (11) Who play in talk of grave matters; (12) on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] (13) (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. (14) Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? (15) Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” (16) Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, (17) Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. (18) (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." (19) Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. (20) And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. (25) 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, (26) But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. (27) "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." (28)
