The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 such as play at plunging, 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
