The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) In a Scroll unfolded; (3) By the much-frequented Fane; (4) And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). (5) And the sea kept filled, (6) Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls (7) and no one will be able to prevent it. (8) On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, (9) and the mountains shall violently fly about. (10) Will be the day of woe for those (11) all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain (12) The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. (13) “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” (14) Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? (15) Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. (16) Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” (19) (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. (20) And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. (21) And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. (22) There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. (23) ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. (24) They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). (25) They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). (26) But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. (27) before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
