The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, (1) By a Decree inscribed (2) In a Scroll unfolded; (3) The house ever-peopled, (4) And the elevated canopy (5) And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). (6) Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls (7) there is none to avert it. (8) Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily (9) and the mountains shall violently fly about. (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) Those who in wading sport themselves. (12) The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], (13) 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! (14) Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, (17) Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. (23) ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. (24) And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
