The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount (1) and a Book inscribed (2) On an open record. (3) by the much-visited House, (4) And the elevated canopy (5) and by the swelling sea, (6) VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: (7) There is none can avert it;- (8) On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. (9) and the mountains are in motion, (10) Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- (11) Those who are playing in pursuits. (12) The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], (13) 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! (14) "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? (15) Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” (16) But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, (17) Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. (22) They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. (23) ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. (24) And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, (25) 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, (26) “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” (27) Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
