The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and the Book inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 By the House Frequented. 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
