The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, (1) And the Book written (2) On a parchment scroll unrolled, (3) by the House inhabited (4) Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! (5) and by the swelling ocean, (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) there is none who could avert it. (8) Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily (9) and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. (10) Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth (11) and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) "This is the Fire which you used to deny. (14) Is this magic or do you not see? (15) [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." (16) [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, (19) (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. (20) To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. (21) We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. (22) They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. (25) Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). (26) Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. (27) Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” (28)
