The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount (1) and a Book inscribed (2) on parchment for distribution, (3) The house ever-peopled, (4) And [by] the heaven raised high (5) And the sea set aflame. (6) The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. (7) There is none that can avert it; (8) On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, (9) and the mountains shall violently fly about. (10) So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), (11) such as play at plunging, (12) A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. (13) “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” (14) What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? (15) Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' (16) Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss (17) rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. (18) [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. (23) ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. (24) And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. (25) "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- (26) Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. (27) We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". (28)
