The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the Mountain, (1) and by the Book in lines (2) on wide-open scrolls. (3) By the much-frequented Fane; (4) and the uplifted roof (5) and by the swelling sea, (6) Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- (7) There is none that can avert it; (8) On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, (9) And the mountains will move with a visible movement. (10) Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) "This is the Fire which you used to deny. (14) Is it magic or do you not still see? (15) Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” (16) Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss (17) Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. (18) "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. (21) And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. (22) They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. (23) ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. (24) And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. (25) They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, (26) God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- (27) we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.'
