The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) And the Book written (2) On fine parchment unrolled, (3) The house ever-peopled, (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) and by the swelling sea: (6) verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, (7) No one can avert it. (8) On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. (9) And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, (10) Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell (13) This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. (14) Is it magic then or do you not see? (15) “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. (18) "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." (19) Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. (20) And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. (21) And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire (22) There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). (23) ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. (24) They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). (25) "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- (26) So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. (27) Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
