The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) And by the Book Inscribed. (2) On an open record. (3) by the House inhabited (4) and the uplifted roof (5) And the sea kept filled, (6) the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, (7) There is none that can ward it off. (8) A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. (9) And the mountains will fly hither and thither. (10) Then woe that Day to the beliers; (11) That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. (12) On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire (13) (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! (14) What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? (15) "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." (16) But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, (17) Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. (18) (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' (19) Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. (21) And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. (22) They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. (23) ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. (24) They will ask each other questions, (25) Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
