The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount (1) By a Decree inscribed (2) on wide-open scrolls. (3) By the House Frequented. (4) And the roof exalted, (5) and the sea that is full (6) verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, (7) There is none who could avert it. (8) On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly (9) The mountains move and fly away, (10) Then woe that day unto the deniers (11) Those who are playing in pursuits. (12) On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), (13) "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. (16) Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. (17) Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. (18) 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. (19) The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. (20) To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. (21) And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. (22) There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) They will turn to one another ask questions, (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. (27) Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
