The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, (1) And [by] a Book inscribed (2) In an outstretched fine parchment, (3) And the House frequented, (4) And the roof exalted, (5) and the sea swarming, (6) Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) none can avert that. (8) The day the sky will tremble, (9) And the mountains will fly hither and thither. (10) On that Day woe to those who belied (11) Those who sport entering into vain discourses. (12) The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell (13) "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! (14) Is this magic, or do ye not see? (15) Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' (16) [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. (20) Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, (23) ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. (24) They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, (25) They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: (26) but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. (27) "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." (28)
