The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount (1) and by the Book in lines (2) In parchment spread open (3) The house ever-peopled, (4) by the high ceiling (heaven), (5) And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- (6) the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, (7) There shall be none to avert it; (8) Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily (9) And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. (10) Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- (11) Those who sport entering into vain discourses. (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” (14) Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? (15) Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. (16) Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. (17) rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: (22) They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. (23) ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. (24) And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. (25) They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
