The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 and the uplifted roof 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
