The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (1) And by oath of a passage, written (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) And [by] the frequented House (4) And the elevated canopy (5) and by the swelling sea, (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) there is none to prevent it. (8) The day the sky will tremble, (9) And the mountains will pass on, departing - (10) Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) (11) who divert themselves with idle chatter: (12) The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, (13) 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! (14) Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? (15) "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." (16) Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. (17) Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire (22) There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. (23) ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. (24) And some of them draw near to others, questioning. (25) They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' (28)
