The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) In a Scroll unfolded; (3) And [by] the frequented House (4) And the elevated canopy (5) and by the swelling sea, (6) Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. (7) none can avert that. (8) Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily (9) And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). (10) So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), (11) Who are playing in falsehood. (12) The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], (13) and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. (14) Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? (15) Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. (18) (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” (19) The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. (20) The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. (21) And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. (22) They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. (23) ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. (24) They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. (27) before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
