The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount Sinai, (1) And the Book written (2) in a parchment unrolled, (3) And by oath of the Inhabited House. (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. (7) There is none can avert it;- (8) [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, (9) and the mountains are in motion, (10) Then woe that Day to the beliers; (11) and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. (12) On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire (13) "This is the Fire which you used to deny. (14) What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? (15) Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' (16) But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, (17) Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. (18) [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. (22) while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, (23) ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. (24) And they will advance unto each other asking questions. (25) Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: (26) and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; (27) We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. (28)
