The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of (mount) Tur. (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) in a parchment unrolled, (3) by the Visited House, (4) by the high ceiling (heaven), (5) And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- (6) surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, (7) Of it there is no preventer. (8) On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, (9) and the mountains shall violently fly about. (10) Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, (11) Who play in talk of grave matters; (12) The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell (13) (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. (16) Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. (18) (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." (19) (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. (20) To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. (22) They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. (23) ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. (25) They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). (26) “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” (27) Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!"
